DA Undersecretary Drusila Esther Bayate, chair of NFARMC and Mr. Peter Paul Santos of Large Scale Commercial Fisheries spearheaded the meeting on the deliberation and approval of the proposed Fisheries Administrative Orders (FAOs).
Members of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) officials led by Atty. Demosthenes Escoto, national director and representatives from other national agencies, members of the academe, non-government organization (NGO) participated in the event.
With the successful conclusion of the meeting, council members of the NFARMC and BFAR has taken a significant step forward in its commitment to sustainable fisheries management in the country through the implementation of rules and regulations to protect and conserve the fishery resources.
NFARMC serves as the policy-making advisory and recommendatory body to the Department of Agriculture. It was created to assist in the formulation of national policies for the protection, sustainable development, and management of fishery and aquatic resources, and the preparation of the National Fisheries and Industry Development Plan.
