Assistant Director for Operations Sammy A. Malvas presented the Bureau’s fisheries action plan on behalf of National Director Eduardo B. Gongona. AD Malvas shared how the Bureau plans to empower and capacitate municipal fisherfolk through interventions in capture fisheries and aquaculture.
Rear Admiral Vicente M. Agdamag, AFP (Ret.), meanwhile, discussed ways how to harness the potential of the Philippine’s blue economy and shared the workings of the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea.
Senator Kiko Pimentel graced the conference as the keynote speaker. He expressed the need for the Philippines to capitalize on its shipbuilding capacities — fourth in the world — to maximize the rich aquatic resources of the country and to prevent the possibility of importing fish commodities.
