PHL GOV’T HOSTS WELCOME DINNER FOR APEC PPFS DELEGATES
It was a night to remember...
On the night of the onset of the three-day meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Policy Partnership on Food Security (APEC-PPFS) on May 13, 2015, the Philippine government hosted a welcome dinner at the beach front area of the Crown Regency Resort on Boracay Island, Aklan.
More than 80 delegates from 21 member-economies including Peru, Singapore, United States, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Viet Nam, the APEC Secretariat and some local fisheries stakeholders were present during the event.
“The Philippine government is optimistic of the fruitful outcome of the remaining two days of the meeting,” said DA Undersecretary For Policy, Planning, Research and Development and Regulations Segfredo R. Serrano during the dinner’s welcome remarks. He also encouraged fellow delegates to enjoy the night’s festivities.
Meanwhile, DA Undersecretary for Fisheries and APEC-PPFS Lead Shepherd Atty. Asis G. Perez surprised delegates when he did a live cooking session where he cooked a special dish called Shrimp in Alavar Sauce.
“We want the delegates to have a taste of the local seafood culinary specialties and promote the richness of our resources,” he said.
Tokens of customized aprons were given to the heads of delegation of member economies by Perez and DA Asst. Secretary Orlan A. Calayag.
As a way of welcoming the delegates, they were treated to an array of seafood specialties and shellfishes like oysters, scallops and angel wings locally known as “diwal.”
The event was capped by performances of fire dancers and a local band.
The APEC-PPFS meeting was anchored on the theme “Building Inclusive Growth in the Agricultural and Fisheries Sectors to Ensure Food Security.” The delegates put forth plans and recommendations that would substantially deal on building inclusive growth in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.
