LA UNION, April 24, 2024 – Sulong Libtong Fisherfolk Association (FA) and Abante Cambaly Fisherfolk Association recently concluded a transformative two-day training program facilitated by the BFAR-Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program Phase 2. Held last March 2024, the training focused on enhancing the financial management and postharvest technology skills of its members.
Manny C. Sison, a member of Sulong Libtong FA in Burgos, expressed gratitude for the invaluable opportunity and training provided by the Program. “Kami po ay nagpapasalamat sa napakagandang oportunidad, sa ibinigay na training ng BFAR tungkol sa tamang pagpoproseso ng isda at sa usapang pinansyal para sa ikabubuti ng aming organisasyon. (We are grateful for the wonderful opportunity and the training provided by BFAR regarding the proper processing of fish and financial matters for the benefit of our organization.)” he stated.
The comprehensive training covered essential topics including Simple Bookkeeping, Recording and Budgeting of financial transactions, Application and Requirements in Securing Bank Savings Account, Fundamental Accounting, Proper Fish Handling Techniques, Good Manufacturing Practices, and Postharvest Strategies. Expert resource speakers from the Finance and Administrative Section (AFS), Fisheries Production and Support Services Division (FPSSD) imparted their knowledge while the Regional Fisheries Training and Fisherfolk Coordination Division (RFTFCD) facilitated the sessions, ensuring a thorough understanding among participants.
Jose D. Saldo, Vice President of Abante Cambaly FA in Bagulin, shared similar sentiments, stressing the significance of maximizing the skills gained during the training to advance their respective associations. Saldo emphasized the commitment of participants to apply their newfound knowledge for the betterment of their communities.
This initiative, conducted under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Phase II program in the region, aligns with DA-BFAR’s mission to empower local fishing communities and promote sustainable practices. By equipping FA members with financial management expertise and postharvest techniques, BFAR aims to ensure the long-term viability of pond technology livelihood projects provided to them.
The training not only prepared participants for project roll-out but also emphasized the significance of adhering to food safety guidelines to produce safe, high-quality fresh fish and fishery products. With enhanced capacities in financial management and postharvest technology, Sulong Libtong and Abante Cambaly FAs are prepared for continued success and prosperity.
