FARMERS’ AND FISHERFOLK’S MONTH CELEBRATION
To recognize the valuable efforts of our heroes in the agriculture and fishery sector, Presidential Proclamation No. 33 was issued on May 21, 1989 which declared the month of May as the Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Month.
During the month of May, we celebrate and acknowledge the hard work and integral role of farmers and fisherfolks in ensuring food sufficiency and security. With this year’s timely theme “Pagpupugay sa Magsasaka at Mangingisda Natin, Tungo sa Sapat na Pagkain”, the community is enjoined to continually support our agri-fishery frontliners especially during the COVID-19 crisis.
In this difficult time, it is equally important that support be given to our farmers and fisherfolks in order to maximize their efforts. As such, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Regional Office 11 continues to coordinate and render technical assistance to our fisherfolks across Davao Region, with prime regards and compliance to the guidelines set by the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force.
To show further support, Kadiwa on Wheels ni Ani at Kita rolls out today at BFAR-11 compound, Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, Davao City. The activity is a mobile market scheme that aims to provide opportunity for vendors to sell their wide selection of agricultural and fishery products to consumers in different barangays.
During the event, consumers on queue area were treated to an audio-visual presentation featuring messages from Department of Agriculture Secretary William Dar and BFAR 11 Regional Director Fatma M. Idris as well as BFAR 11 programs.
One of the highlights of said activity is the awarding of Certificates to the vendors in appreciation of their unrelenting efforts and commitment to serve as frontliners which led to the success of Kadiwa on Wheels.
In observance of IATF protocols, guests and vendors were reminded to wear their masks properly and observe social distancing. The said activity ended at 2PM today.
BFAR-11 Regional Director Fatma Idris acknowledges the crucial role and importance of our agri-fisherfolk frontliners to ensure sustainable and increased fish production during this crisis. BFAR 11 will continue to work hand-in-hand together with the local government unit to ensure efficiency and continued fisheries productivity across Davao region.
Thank you to our frontliners in the agri-fishery sector! Mabuhay!
