Filter nets removed along Lala, LDN and Tangub City
A total of five filter nets, locally known as “sanggab” were removed along the municipal waters of Lala, Lanao del Norte and Tangub City on May 11, 2020.
Members of the BFAR-10 Fisheries Resource Protection Group spotted two filter nets in Lala, and three in Tangub City, while conducting their regular seaborne patrol operations along Panguil Bay on the afternoon of the said date.
“Sanggab” or filter nets are illegal fishing structures that previously proliferated in the bay. Reports showed that more than 2,273 of these structures were operating in the bay, until all were completely removed in 2015 with the help of the Panguil Bay Development Council and the LGUs surrounding the area.
All confiscated nets were turned over to the LGU of Lala and Tangub City.
