DOLPHIN STRANDS IN ZAMBALES, DIES DESPITE RESCUE EFFORTS
BOTOLAN, Zambales – A young female dolphin, identified as Fraser’s Dolphin, was found stranded at Binuclutan Beach on Friday, April 24.
BFAR Central Luzon Fisheries Resource Protection Group (FRPG) assigned in Zambales and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Botolan responded and hoisted the dolphin onto a stretcher and transferred her to the LGU rehab pool where FRPG personnel did their best to keep her above the water surface. Unfortunately, despite the best rescue efforts, she died around 9:30pm, Saturday. Necropsy is currently being conducted by the provincial veterinarian to determine cause of death.
BFAR Central Luzon would like to thank all who responded even with the restrictions and challenges of the ECQ situation; to Ocean Adventure for the veterinary medical care advice and to DENR Zambales. (RCC/ Photos by Jason Estaris)
