FRPG 8 nabs illegal fishers in Tarangnan
Through the strengthened effort of the Bureau to combat Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF) activities in the region, the Fisheries Resource Protection Group 8 apprehended three (3) small scale commercial fishing vessels illegally operating within the municipal waters of Tarangnan, Samar on February 24, 2021.
These CFVs owned by residents of Tarangnan Samar, have been caught using trawl fishing method on or around 11 a.m., 12:59 p.m., and 1:01 p.m. respectively while the apprehending team was conducting its seaborne operation in Maqueda Bay and Samar Sea.
The said fishery law offenders allegedly violated Sections 86 (Unauthorized Fishing), 93 (Use of Fine Mesh Net) and 95 (Use of Active Gear in Municipal Waters, Bays and Other Fishery Management Areas) of the amended Philippine Fisheries Code. If proven guilty, their fish catch and gears will be confiscated, and will be paying a fine of Php P50,000 to Php P100,000.
FRPG 8 seized their fishing nets, and released the fishing vessels, 7 fishworkers and three (3) captains after the initial investigation. Further, the apprehending officers are currently gathering the necessary documents for filing of appropriate cases.
