DA-BFAR R02 implements best practices for solid waste management
Pursuant to R.A No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, the Department of Agriculture—Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Office No. 2 (DA-BFAR R02) implements a systematic ecological solid waste management.
The Bureau created an Ecological Solid Waste Management Technical Working Group (TWG) and Evaluation Team to facilitate implementation of best practices in solid waste management. Trash bins for compostable, recyclable, residual and hazardous wastes were provided in all divisions and sections in the regional office. Not only labels are placed on the bins but also pictures of different types of waste to ensure proper garbage segregation.
The TWG conducted an extensive orientation on proper waste segregation and disposal to BFAR R02 staff and personnel. Fines and penalties shall be imposed for violations of said campaign. The bureau will also construct facilities like compost pits for compostable waste and Material Recovery Facility for recyclables.
Regional Director Milagros C. Morales expects for the full cooperation of the employees and encourages them to minimize their waste to create a more environment-friendly workplace for all.
