To engage youth participation in fish production, two youth groups namely Kafachang, and Burubor Bulo 4H clubs receive four units of fish cage projects under the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD).
Each unit of fish cage project is worth PhP50,000.00 and is composed of nets, bamboo frames, 29 bags of feeds, 3,000 fingerlings intended for one cropping period or about 4-5 months of culture. Said project was installed at the Tanggal Turod SWIP in Tabuk City, Kalinga.
The group beneficiaries include 63 high school and college students who were capacitated on fish cage construction and tilapia culture prior to establishment.
"I initiated this project in order for them to develop their interest in fish production and instill to them the value of time management to the young students", said PFO Kalinga Joyce M. Ducyogen.
" Why not introduce an interesting activity for them to become more productive especially this time of pandemic where they dont go to school due to temporary lockdown", she added. In fact, this effort generates additional income that they can use to buy some school supplies.
Prior to installation, the project recipients hauled the materials as well as sewing of nets, and construction of cage frame last December. While the stocking of fish was undertaken in the second week of this month.
