About 797 fisherfolk beneficiaries had already claimed their cash and food assistance under the Cash and Food Subsidy Program for Marginal Farmers and Fisherfolk (CFSMFF) in Abra province after distributing the next batch of vouchers released by the Department of Agriculture.
This week, the distribution of the food assistance was undertaken in the municipalities of Licuan-Baay (50), Pilar (39) and Villaviciosa (54).
These QR-coded vouchers will be used to claiming the cash assistance worth PhP 3,000.00 at any M Lhullier branch; while the remaining PHP 2,000.00 worth of food subsidy was distributed in kind to include half cavan of rice, 3.75 kgs of dressed chicken and two trays of egg.
The list of eligible fisherfolk are those who did not receive any assistance from the government and who are equally affected by the pandemic crisis.
This effort is part of the stimulus package of the Department of Agriculture funded under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act or Bayanihan 2. RD Lilibeth L. Signey said the program is intended for the rice and corn farmers including the fisherfolk; and as a strategy of the program, the distribution of in-kind goods is likewise to give market support to local producers of rice, chicken, and eggs.
The Abra Diocesan Teachers and Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative (ADTEMPCO) was the accredited KADIWA supplier recognized by the Agribusiness & Marketing Assistance Division of DA to facilitate the distribution of goods.
“We are very thankful for this program because we are able to buy kitchen necessities as well as laundry essentials”, said Robert D. Somera, beneficiary of Pilar, Abra.
Meanwhile, SB Chairman for Agriculture Alfredo Banatao of Licuan-Baay said that the eligible fisherfolk who received the assistance were very fortunate.
“I am overwhelmed especially that amid pandemic, we were able to receive cash and food assistance like this”, said MAFC Chairperson Melicio Barsena.
In Abra there are 2,389 target beneficiaries of the program. The list of eligible beneficiaries is subject to validation of the Bureau upon submission of respective Local Government Units through the Office of Municipal Agriculturist.
