Maigo fisherfolk to benefit P3-M community fish landing center from BFAR-10
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – To boost its fishery and aquaculture sector, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 10 (BFAR-10) turns over a community fish landing center (CFLC) worth P3 million to the local government of Maigo in Lanao del Norte on Thursday, November 26, 2020.
BFAR 10 Regional Director Teodoro A. Bacolod, Jr. said, the project ensures food security, aside from its aim to boost the economic stability of said town.
“This CFLC will also serve as hubs for economic activities, skills training, monitoring of fish catch stocks, and information generation,” said Bacolod.
He added, it is a venue for sharing sustainable and disaster-resilient fisheries-based livelihood and resource management.
Post-harvest equipment comprised of eight units stainless-steel fish stalls and two chest freezers were also provided, apart from the P30,000 worth of fishery products as start-up capital for their enterprise.
Said project was established under the Targeted Actions to Reduce Poverty and Generate Economic Transformation (TARGET) in the fishery sector program to improve the welfare of the fisherfolk.
Maigo Mayor Ina Louise R. Miflores shared, “We are very grateful for choosing our municipality to be the recipient of the project, rest assured that we will do our part in maintaining its operation with the help of the Labuay Religious Fisherfolks Association.”#
