Join the Search for the Most Outstanding Coastal Community!
The Department of Agriculture through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources launched last October 17, 2016 the Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan (MMK), a national search for the most outstanding coastal community. Once again, we are accepting entries for the 2020 MMK Search.
The MMK program aims to promote fisheries protection and conservation, centers on the significance of sustainably managing our fisheries and aquatic resources, and promotes stakeholder engagement to the cause of resource protection and conservation.
Further, the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources will award coastal municipalities and cities that have shown exemplary efforts in protecting and conserving their marine environment.
To qualify, coastal municipality or city must pass on the following criteria:
1. No illegal fishing; 2. Observance of closed fishing season; 3. Establishment of marine protected areas; 4. Clean coastal waters, without domestic and industrial wastes; and 5. Effective mangrove protection and rehabilitation program. Submission of entries is on or before August 28, 2020. Regional Winners will receive the following prizes respectively: First Prize- Plaque + P 2,000,000.00 Second Prize- Plaque + P 1,000,000.00 Third Prize- Plaque + P 500,000.00 For the National Winners, the following are the prizes respectively: First Prize- Plaque + P 30,000,000.00 Second Prize- Plaque + P 18,000,000.00 Third Prize- Plaque + P 10,000,000.00 These prizes will be in the form of fisheries livelihood projects.
