The San Isidro Irrigators/Farmers Association has proven that there is indeed money in aquaculture as they harvested 200 kilos of tilapia from their fishpond in Sitio Inamboracay, Bobon, Northern Samar earlier.
The said association is a recipient of the Bureau’s assistance to fishpond operators in Northern Samar. They have been provided with 120 bags of feeds and 10,000 tilapia fingerlings for their first cropping, from which more than 4500 kilos of tilapia from six (6) cages have been harvested in November 2019. Further, 10,000 tilapia fingerlings have been given to them during the 2nd quarter of the year, which has initially produced the aforementioned 200 kilos of tilapia from one of their cages only. This harvest was immediately sold to the locals of Bobon and marketers in Catarman, Northern Samar.
The said intervention is in line with the Bureau’s expanded and intensive livelihood assistance to aquafarm operators in the region to provide “Fish for Every Juan” amid the pandemic threat.
