The Provincial Fishery Office (PFO) of Samar, through its Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program Focal Person, has monitored the existing 22 Lapu-lapu fish cages of fisherfolk beneficiaries in Hinabangan, Talalora, and San Sebastian Samar last July 3, 2020.
Beyond the devastation brought by several typhoons, the program beneficiaries were still able to reconstruct, maintain, and efficiently manage their new aquafarm venture. Matter of fact, 21 out of 22 fish cages previously installed in the said areas are operational. Withal, fisherfolk beneficiaries will be harvesting an estimate of 680-700 kilograms of lapu-lapu in December 2020 from these fish cages.
More than Php 4.5. M worth of fish cage, fingerlings, guardhouses, solar lights, fish corrals, and fiberglass boats were given to the 22 fisherfolk beneficiaries of SAAD in the said coastal municipalities since 2019 to provide them with a feasible and adaptive source of livelihood. These interventions are aligned with the program's mission to alleviate poverty among marginalized sectors in agriculture and fisheries, most especially in the province of Samar.
