BFAR Turns Over Community Fish Landing Center (CFLC) to Palimbang LGU
Milbuk, Sultan Kudarat – Today, RD Yusop Pendaliday together with the Post-Harvest and Marketing Division Head, Omar M. Sabal, and the Provincial Fishery Office Head, Jeffrey Nuñez Turns Over the Community Fish Landing Center (CFLC) in Milbuk, Sultan Kudarat to the Local Government Unit represented by Mayor Joenime B. Kapina. The ceremony was witnessed by Vice-Mayor Amil Pangansayan, SB Member Mhemet Talicop (Chair Comm. Agriculture and Fisheries), SB Member Mark Siokon (Approriations), and Chairman Laurencio Yangurin of Milbuk Mutli-Purpose Fishing Association together with the officers and members.
The construction of CFLCs is a government initiative to improve conditions at fishing communities with high poverty incidence in the different Regions and it aims to reduce post-harvest losses from 25 percent to 18 percent or even lower. The area was chosen as the site for the project because fishermen at Barangay Milbuk are landing and selling their catch at any areas along beach. With this project, the bureau is looking forward for a better and improved venue for the fishing industry by providing a good and sanitary facility for fishermen and peddlers. For the community and the association, this could be a venue for any trainings, meetings and gatherings. And for BFAR, this is another potential site for fish catch monitoring and stock assessment.
Mayor Joenime B. Kapina on his message, pronounced the full support of the LGU for the project. He added that LGU will facilitate the creation and fast approval of the ordinance for the centralization and management of the CFLC’s operation. Further, his words include to fast-track the sourcing of fund and appropriation for the improvement of fish landing access road and construction of an extension of the concrete foundation “riprap”.
