BFAR 12 Fisheries Resource Protection Group (FRPG) conducts Market Denial Operations
On June 6-8, the FRPG team conducted inspections on fishing vessels that were unloading fish at the General Santos City Fishport. The team inspected the landed fish to make sure no fish caught by explosives enters the market. Also, the documents of unloading vessels were inspected to make sure no unauthorized fishing boats will be able to land their catch at the fishport. The team also conducted market inspections at the General Santos City Fishport and at the public markets of Kiamba and Maasim, Sarangani Province. The team reported no illegally caught fish were unloaded and sold at the markets. On the other hand, all fishing vessels inspected were compliant to relevant fishing regulations.
Market inspections are regularly conducted by the FRPG to prevent illegally caught fish from being sold in the local markets and from entering the supply chain of fishery products being sold both in the domestic and international markets.
