BFAR10 SAAD Milestone: Success in Cooperation
June 7, 2020- Lala, Lanao del Norte. The Lala Fishermen Cooperative (LAFICO), a BFAR initiated cooperative, mark the beginning of their cooperative journey as they harvested a total of 3,975 kg of Bangus in the Fish Pen Culture Project under the Special Areas for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of BFAR.
The cooperative generated an estimated income of Php 430,000.00 which will be used to procure bangus fingerlings and feeds for their next cropping.
Farm inputs were all provided for free, such as 10,000pcs of bangus fingerlings, a 20m x 30m pen structure, and 300 bags of 25kg feeds. The fingerlings were stocked on February 13, 2020
SAAD Program is a locally-funded program of the Department of Agriculture that is intended to help alleviate poverty among marginalized sectors on agriculture and fisheries. Coined after the bisaya word "saad" which means promise, SAAD Program is a three-year program that aims to help reduce poverty incidence in the country by providing appropriate interventions to improve the income of farmers and fisherfolk in the priority provinces thru the implementation of sustainable rural development strategies.
