Seaborne Operation seizes two sanggab structures
The BFAR-10 Fisheries Resource Protection Group or FRPG, together with the Philippine Coast Guard Sub-station Tubod, Lanao del Norte removed two (2) units of illegal filter nets known as “sanggab” along Megcawanay, Tangub City on June 9, 2020, while conducting Seaborne Patrol Operation along Panguil Bay.
Seaborne Patrol Operations are regularly conducted by the FRPG along the waters surrounding Region 10, to protect the waters from illegal fishing activities, which are detrimental to the sustainability of our fishery resources.
The confiscated units were turned over the LGU Tangub City for proper disposition.
It is noted that the “sanggab” once proliferated along Panguil Bay, which led to the decline of available fishery resources. This led the Panguil Bay Development Council in 2015 to declare sanggab as an illegal structure form of fishing, in order to restore the beauty and bounty of Panguil Bay.
