BFAR12-FRPG Conducts Land-based Monitoring
DA-BFAR 12 Fisheries Resource Protection Group (FRPG) conducts regular land-based inspections on Port and Markets: at PFDA, Fishport Complex, Tambler General Santos City and nearby Public Markets of General Santos City; and mobile checkpoint at exit points at Apopong, General Santos City (JTF checkpoint, Apopong Roundabout). This to achieve the Bureaus objective to prevent, deter and eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF).
Based on May 23-30, 2020 land-based inspection, the team inspected a total of twelve (12) fishing vessels (2 Small Scale and 10 Medium Scale), twenty (20) fish stalls, eleven (11) of which are inside PFDA, Fishport Complex, Tambler General Santos City while nine (9) were from nearby Public Markets of General Santos City: Rexel JS Satellite Market, Calumpang public market; Palengke MakLab-A, Labangal Public Market; and General Santos City Public Market. Further, 109 fish cars were inspected during the conduct of mobile checkpoint at the JTF checkpoint, Apopong Roundabout, General Santos City, in which the team found 54 fish cars without Auxiliary Invoice or Local Transport Permit. These fish cars were advised to secure Auxiliary Invoice or Local Transport Permit.
FRPG team led by Ronald V. Mañara, attested that the fishing vessels, fish stalls and markets inspected were compliant of the existing fisheries laws and regulations during the time of inspection.
