Invitation of Sector Candidates for Nomination to the National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (NFARMC)
The Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) is now accepting candidates for nomination to the National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (NFARMC).
The NFARMC is the highest policy-making/advisory/recommendatory body in Philippine Fisheries, being consulted by Department of Agriculture in all matters pertaining to fisheries policies and fisheries management programs. The NFARMC shall be composed of fifteen (15) members:
a. The Undersecretary of Agriculture, as Chairman;
b. The Undersecretary for Interior and Local Government;
c. Five (5) members representing the fisherfolk/ fishworker sector;
d. Five (5) members representing commercial fishing, aquaculture, and fish processing sector;
e. Two(2) fishery experts from the academe; and
f. One (1) representative of NGOs involved in fisheries.
The members of NFARMC, except the Undersecretary of Agriculture and Undersecretary for Interior and Local Government, shall be appointed by the President of the Philippines upon the selection of their respective organizations.
Terms of Office: The members of the NFARMC, except the Undersecretary of Agriculture and Undersecretary for Interior and Local Government, shall serve for a term of three (3) years without reappointment.
Functions of the NFARMC – the NFARMC shall have the following functions:
a. Assist in the formulation of national policies for the protection, sustainable development and management of fisheries and aquatic resources for the approval of the Secretary;
b. Assist the Department in the preparation if the National Fisheries and Industry Development Plan; and
c. Perform such other functions as may be provided by law.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources shall facilitate the selection of nominees in accordance with the Fisheries Administrative Order No. 196 and 196-1. Those who are interested are invited to send their letter of interest to NFARMC-Program Management Center through e-mail (email@example.com), phone (telefax: (02) 929-7058) or to Atty. Asis G. Perez, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, 3rd floor, PCA Building, Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City on or before August 31, 2015.
For the fisherfolk/fishworkers, they are advised to coordinate with their respective BFAR Regional Directors who shall facilitate the nomination process in accordance to FAO 196-1.
