The BFAR SAGIP Dagat Reporting System is an online platform developed by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to strengthen monitoring and reporting of unusual or suspicious activities in Philippine Fisheries Management Area. It is part of the country’s efforts to combat Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) fishing and to promote sustainable fisheries management.
Through this system, fisherfolk and community stakeholders can easily submit reports in real time. Each report is tagged with its exact location (longitude and latitude) and automatically shown on an interactive digital map. This makes it possible for authorities to quickly identify where incidents happen, analyze patterns, and provide timely responses.
The system is important because it helps protect Philippine waters from illegal fishing activities, ensures the safety and livelihood of fisherfolk, promotes transparency and accountability in fisheries monitoring, and safeguards marine biodiversity for future generations. By combining technology with community participation, the SAGIP Dagat Reporting System empowers fisherfolk as active partners in protecting our seas and securing the nation’s fisheries resources.
