During the meeting, the sector’s accomplishments for the first semester of 2022, the policy direction of the Bureau under the new administration and guidance of President Bongbong Marcos in his crucial role as the country’s Agriculture Secretary, as well as the catch-up plan for the fisheries sector, were discussed.

Emphasizing the President’s marching orders for the agriculture sector, Usec. Sebastian urged the BFAR management to mainstream the value chain approach, that is providing interventions and developing the fisheries sector from production stage to post-harvest and marketing, intensifying enterprise development, and boosting income generation of fisheries stakeholders.

OIC National Director Domenden also expressed his full support for this new approach and recognized it as the Bureau’s new guidepost in formulating and implementing programs and activities to develop the sector. He shared DA-BFAR’s short-term and multi-year plan, which was divided into three major strategies: modernization, innovation and intensification.
