During the conference, DA-BFAR officials and personnel discussed the milestones, achievements, and challenges in the establishment and implementation of the Fisheries Management Areas (FMAs) in the country.
Three years since the issuance of FAO No. 263, which laid down the guidelines for the establishment of the 12 FMAs, the DA-BFAR continues to lead the charge by conducting massive information dissemination within each FMA, as well as regularly convening and capacitating the Management Board, Science Advisory Group, Technical Working Group, and Secretariat, each of whom has a critical role in the operationalization of FMAs.
