OFFSHORE FISHERIES

BFAR continuously seeks the promotion of offshore fishing through its research and oceanographic vessel - M/V DA-BFAR. The discovery of new potentially rich fishing grounds in the deep waters of the country, specifically in the eastern seaboard would encourage the commercial fishing sector to venture in offshore fishing leaving the municipal waters for the exclusive exploitation of the small fisherfolk. It could also relieve heavy fishing pressure in traditional fishing frounds, thereby allowing its fast recovery.

 AQUACULTURE
The country’s inland resources consisting of lakes, rivers, reservoirs, swamps, marshes and small water impoundments are vital inland resources whose potentials for fishery development have not been fully tapped.
