Status
of the country's fisheries resources, updates on
the fishing industry, lessons learned from fisheries
programs/projects, government support to fisheries
and many more. Until recently these types of information
are not readily available to agriculturists, scientists,
policy and decision-makers, researchers, journalists
and the general public. It takes weeks if not months
for basic information to be available and accessible.
The advent of information and communication technology
(ICT) has changed all these. With the click of your
finger, all the fisheries information you need can
be made readily available and accessible with the
BFAR Website.
But our website is just a tool. The greater challenge
is how to use the knowledge from our website in
planning and implementing development programs,
generating feedback, networking with other partners
or stakeholders such as business companies, advocating
resource management, etc.
The website enables BFAR to be a more effective
and efficient government agency. The BFAR website
is one of our mechanisms in building greater transparency
and accountability in our governance.
I therefore encourage our BFAR family to contribute
in enriching our website just as we are asking them
to use it more frequently as a means for making
informed decisions, and providing better public
service.
I also envision a very interactive website wherein
even our "small" fisherfolk are not only
recipients of information but creators of information
as well. I am sure that our website managers are
now working on this vision just as they are continuously
working for a more relevant information medium.
I hope to see, talk and listen to you more often
through our electronic medium, the BFAR Website.
