BFAR BICOL FOREWARNS FISHERFOLK ON TYPHOON YOLANDA

PILI, CAMARINES SUR – Following PAGASA warning to put on red alert starting tomorrow Thursday November 7, 2013 Typhoon Yolanda’s entry to Philippine Area of Responsibility and landfall over Samar-Bicol area on Friday November 08, 2013, BFAR Bicol thru its Regional Director Dennis del Socorro requests fisherfolk to be on guard and secure their families, bancas and fishing gears for possible impact to coastal communities.  Del Socorro also enjoins fisherfolk to closely coordinate with the barangay officials to prepare and familiarize evacuation actions, routes and camps should Yolanda intensifies.  He added that close monitoring of sea surface movement should be observed and for the fisherfolk not to go on fishing fleets as a pre-emptive measure for zero-casualty as Yolanda approaches Bicol waters.

Coastal Local Government Units (LGUs) thru its MDRRMC and Municipal Agricultural Offices are likewise enjoined to closely monitor the weather updates and report immediately any typhoon damages relative to fisheries production for the bureau to address any action that is necessary to be undertaken.  The bureau is also on guard for any quick response that the agency can contribute to the concerned coordinating agencies.
